What is Vermicompost?

Vermicompost is very similar to pure worm castings. The primary difference is that vermicompost has been screened 1 less time than castings, so vermicompost will contain trace amounts of compost while worm castings are more pure.  In lab tests, vermicompost is proven to have a similar biological composition as pure castings, and vermicompost also similar benefits in soil structure and porosity, water retention, and nutrients.

So vermicompost provides many of the same benefits as pure castings, but at a lower cost. Soil distributors and soil mixing companies concerned with appearance usually opt for pure worm castings. Vermicompost is a similar but more cost-effective option for gardeners, farms, and anyone not as concerned with the appearance of the castings.

1 yard of castings overs weighs ~1,100 lbs, 1.5 yards ~1,700 lbs, and 2 yards ~ 2,200 lbs. The castings are shipped on pallets in FIBC bags that are ~ 34 x 48 x 40 inches.

Our Bulk Worm Castings Process

Brothers Worm Farm’s bulk vermicompost and worm castings are produced from our red wiggler and compost earthworms. We have implemented a standardized and repeatable approach to producing worm castings that ensures consistent and quality worm castings and overs.

We do not add filler of any kind to our vermicompost, so the bulk vermicompost super sacks consist of worm castings, compost the worms did not fully process, and small amounts of other organic matter (and sometimes a few worms and cocoons!).

Bulk Worm Castings: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1) How will the vermicompost ship?

We’ll ship the bulk vermicompost to you using a LTL freight carrier. The bulk super sacks will be palletized and require a forklift or tractor for unloading.

2) When will the bulk vermicompost ship after I order?

Once an order is received we will reach out to confirm your order and availability of a forklift or loading dock. We will then schedule a freight carrier to pick-up your bulk worm castings order.

The process from order to pick-up will take 2-6 days. Once picked-up, the bulk vermicompost will be delivered to you within 3-4 days (depending on location and carrier transit times). We will provide tracking information (when available) so you can track the status of your order.

3) How is bulk vermicompost shipped?

Bulk vermicompost bags are palletized (48" x 40" or 40" x 40") and shipped in FIBC super sacks. The bag dimensions are as follows:

1/2 yard (~ 500 lbs): 30" x 40" X 48"

1 yard (~1,100 pounds): 34" x 40" X 48"

1.5 Yard (~1,700 pounds): 36" x 40" X 48"
